- #20-227: Deputy Attorney General 2 (Assistant Section Chief - Environmental Enforcement and Environmental Justice Section – Trenton NJ)
Environmental Enforcement & Environmental Justice (EE&EJ) represents the Department of Environmental Protection and other State agencies and commissions in federal and State court and administrative litigation to enforce a wide range of federal and State environmental laws. The Clean Air Unit of the section is dedicated to the enforcement of the Federal Clean Air Act, including enforcement actions brought in concert with other states and the federal government against coal-fired plants in New Jersey and other states. The Assistant Section Chief works under the supervision of the the Section Chief of the EE&EJ Section and the Assistant Attorneys General in Charge of the Affirmative Civil Enforcement Practice Group in Trenton. The Assistant Section Chief will be in charge of supervising aspects of the Section’s mission, potentially including efforts to promote environmental justice through filing civil actions (see https://www.nj.gov/oag/newsreleases20/pr20200827b.html) manage priority civil enforcement actions (see NJDEP v. City of Trenton, NJ Superior Court, Dkt. No. MER-C-59-20), natural resource damage suits (see NJDEP et al v. E.I. Dupont et al, USDC D.NJ Dkt No. 1:19-cv-14766 (RMB)(JS)), routine environmental enforcement matters in civil and administrative forums, supervising federal facing multistate initiatives (see https://www.nj.gov/oag/newsreleases20/pr20200914a.html) and other cases. The Assistant Section Chief provides counsel and representation to all of the Section’s clients; assists with planning and managing the supervision and operations of the Section; assigns matters and supervises Deputy Attorneys General in the Section; litigates and supervises litigation, as needed; evaluates the performance of assigned Deputy Attorneys General; conducts case file reviews; and, performs other duties as required.
